What is the Purpose of this Page?
Simply put, this is an hommage to Ai no Kusabi. I have seldom been so taken with a film as I was with this one. I searched the web for sites and didn't find all that much. There are some synopses and a very good background at Aestheticsm. There don't seem to be any in depth english sites though.
It is my fervent hope that by increasing awareness of anime such as this that more will become available and that the creators will see fit to bring us new stories.
This is an extremely labour intensive project I've started here, it takes time to go through each scene and put thoughts to keyboard.

What is Ai no Kusabi?
Originally it was a novel that was turned into a radio drama which in turn was made into an anime movie in two parts.
But that doesn't really tell you what Ai no Kusabi is. There are not many words available to describe what it is, other than to say it is - simply put - the single most erotic thing I have ever seen.
It is beautiful, it is tragic and it is very Japanese. The film weaves a spell of sight and sound that hooks you in and won't let go till long after the tape stops running.
It is not something that could have been created in North America, it has no happy ending, no pat answers and it tells the story of sexual obsession and love between two males. There are no mecha here, no battles other than those of the mind.
It is yaoi at its finest. The art is briliant, the music incredible and the story one of star-crossed lovers reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet.
If you're over 18, get it. If you're not, you shouldn't be here.
